Resurrection Of Extinct Animals Is Unleashing Fantasies For Us

The Resurrection of Extinct Animals Is Unleashing Fantasies For Us

The idea of de-extinction of the already extinct animals back to this planet is quite thrilling and adding fantasies to our imaginations. It is like reliving those lost moments of the prehistoric or primitive eras. In real time, if it does happen, we get to see the creatures, happened to be the most exciting and nerve-tingling for us. Until now, we had had some Ideas about these extinct animals through a cinematic view, and some books.

But, how does this hold true for the whole thing? As per the reports suggested by the Long Now Foundation, they want to resurrect extinct animals using DNA sequencing technology, and also other advanced technologies. Don’t you think doing such odds is a direct challenge to the creation of the Almighty?

Whatever it is, the revival of extinct animals no longer holds any fantasy to us, and such incidences have happened earlier as well.

Instances to solidify the ideas of De-extinction

Bucardo or Pyrenean ibex, once found in the high mountains in the Pyrenees, had its last identity till 2000 before extinction. It was a wild goat, which was brought back to life through a cloning. It is due to hunters, we have ended the populations of bucardo. However, only female bucardo named Celia was alive. The scientists from France and Spain radio-collared her, and let her into the wild. It died after a few months. And with this, the last alive bucardo also became extinct.

How Is The Resurrection of Extinct Animals Possible?

The scientists had Celia’s cells preserved in their labs in Spain. Over the years, nuclei from the cells of Celia provided an important source for cloning. The goat’s egg was injected with these nuclei and put them into surrogate mothers. As many as seven goats with implantation faced miscarriages, while only one goat with Celia’s cells became a clone. However, the clone died only after ten minutes after its birth due to a breathing distress.

We have a long list of extinct animals, including the great auk, dodo, the Chinese river dolphin, imperial woodpecker and of course, bucardo. More and more animals are endangered now only because of human interventions. But, cloning is an answer to the human-driven extinct, that can reverse the trends. And hence, the collection of intact cells of the extinct animals makes the culturing of their DNA possible, and as a result, we could recreate the creature’s genome.

Using this genome, we can revive some of the extinct animals back to the wild. Let’s have a look.

Caspian Tiger
Siberian Tigers

The habitat loss and human practice of poaching drove Caspian tigers to extinction. Mostly found in Central Asia and Turkey, they can see the lights of the world through a genetic expression of the similar Siberian Tigers.

Dodo

The valuable DNA specimens of Dodo skeleton are a useful resource to resurrect this bird and get them back to the wilds of Mauritius.

Woolly Mammoth

There have been no traces of these animals ever since its extinctions 4,000 years ago. However, their DNA samples give birth to new woolly mammoths in a pursuit of de-extinction.

Thylacine

These marsupials had some similarities with Tasmanian tiger and became extinct in 1960. With their DNAs found in Tasmanian Devils, the scientists are hoping to revive them.

Rather than this, gastric brooding frogs, Baiji, Moa, woolly rhinoceros and Cuban Macaw are in the queue of the tentative de-extinction process.

We must welcome this new idea as it fosters the advanced scientific discoveries, as well as the revitalization of wild habitat. In the near future, we would have a well-maintained bio-diversity with increased numbers of flora and fauna.
